A brief history of Hikoi Taupo...

 

Hikoi Taupo came first. And has been the model for all of our Hikoi stores. It has a unique character and feel (as do all the Hikoi's) with its wrought iron artwork of ferns and koru's that follow its walls and the huge solid Rimu wood counter top that catches your eye as you enter. Add to this the friendly greeting you get when you walk in and you are living the Hikoi experience! Kia ora!

Hikoi Taupo opened Nov 1st 2001 and quickly became something special in the shoe retailer market. Finally someone was offering something different from general ‘sports stores’ who mix the white sport shoes with the outdoor tramping boots and hiking shoes or the tracksuits with the waterproof jackets. Finally fashion and function were walking hand in hand!

If passing by Taupo do stop in and visit the store. You will find the best range of footwear;shoes, boots and sandals in town. The gear they sell is especially suited for all types of walking, casual and travel. Since there are so many outdoor walking or hiking activities in the Taupo area (eg Tongariro Crossing)
you are definitely going to need good shoes.

What is your favourite quote or someone you admire? My parents, they gave up so much for their kids
What's your favourite Hikoi brand and why? Merrell because they are so comfy!

What is the best country you have travelled to? I haven't left NZ yet, but I am saving for Europe next year.

What is your favourite spot in NZ? Great Lake Taupo.
What is the best country you have travelled to? Nepal beacause treking through the Himalayas was awesome.
What is your favourite quote or someone you admire? The wheel that squeaks gets the oil. 
What's your favourite Hikoi brand and why? Vibram 5 fingers, because they make sense and work.
What's the one thing you would always take with you on a Hikoi? A passport, or as little as possible!
